Designing a lovely bedroom begins with a definition of what you value. What are just a few of the things you value in a bedroom? Most people would say that they want their bedroom to be a place of peace and relaxation — after all, the average person spends about a third of their life sleeping. What, exactly, do you want your bedroom to be? Additionally, what are a few of the ways in which the design of your bedroom will integrate with the other rooms in your home? Today, we would like to offer up just a few tips.
Your Bedroom — A Place of Peace
Typically, when I consult with people regarding the design of their home’s interiors, it seems that the bedroom does not necessarily take priority in people’s minds. However, it is my opinion that the bedroom should represent one of your first priorities. You will spend a lot of time in your bedroom, and it should be a sanctuary! Here are a few easy ways to prioritize your bedroom and create a place of peace:
1. Refuse to let electronics in. Phones, computers, and televisions — in my opinion — have no place in the bedroom. Screens inhibit your body’s ability to relax and fall asleep. Does your cell phone double as an alarm? For maximum rest and seclusion, turn off your phone at night and invest in a high quality alarm that wakes you gradually using natural sounds.
2. Clean the clutter daily. Pick a time to clean up the clutter in your bedroom each day. Maybe it will be in the morning right when you get up. Maybe it will be right after you take the kids to school. Refuse to let a busy schedule allow you to let the clutter take over your bedroom sanctuary.
3. Make the bed daily. It’s amazing how making your bed in the morning can set the tone for an orderly day. A made bed has the ability to transform the look of your room.
4. Add some throw pillows. Making your bed the room’s centerpiece creates a unified, focused look. Make some throw pillows or purchase some to add to your bed in coordinating prints.
These are just a few ideas that have the ability to transform your bedroom. Give me a call if you would like some other interior design ideas for your bedroom!
